Performance Engineering (PE) with a focus on modern heterogeneous, highly parallel computing nodes is a central research field of NHR@FAU, which coordinates this topic within the NHR Association. The research results are continuously incorporated into user consulting, parallelization and code optimization projects, and the international node-level PE (NLPE) tutorial program. A thematic application focus of the PE approach lies in the area of hardware-efficient implementations for CPUs and GPUs of algorithms of sparse linear algebra as well as stencil schemes. The group has extensive experience with subspace methods with many dense vectors and associated block vector basic operations. The work is always based on an analytical performance model that systematically identifies optimization potentials, which are then incorporated into code development manually or with the help of automated code generation
